The First Burn — The Most Important One

The very first time you light your candle is the most critical burn of its life. Always allow your candle to burn long enough for the entire surface of the wax to melt and reach the edges of the jar, this is known as achieving a full melt pool. For most jar candles, this takes between 2–4 hours depending on the diameter of the vessel.

Never extinguish your candle before this is achieved, as doing so will cause the wax to tunnel down the centre, wasting fragrance and significantly shortening the life of your candle. A little patience on the first burn sets the tone for every burn that follows.

Trim Your Wick — Every Single Time

A trimmed wick ensures a clean, controlled flame, prevents excessive soot, mushrooming, and smoking, and helps your candle burn evenly and slowly for a longer-lasting experience. Use a wick trimmer or small pair of scissors, and always remove any trimmings from the wax before lighting.

A long or untrimmed wick is the most common cause of an uneven, sooty, or overly large flame, so this small step makes a significant difference.

Burn Time & Candle Longevity

For the best results, we recommend burning your jar candle for no longer than 3 hours at a time. Extended burns beyond this can cause the jar to overheat, the wick to move off-centre, and the fragrance throw to become overwhelming rather than refined. After each burn, allow your candle to cool and solidify completely, ideally for at least 2 hours before relighting. This rest period allows the wax to reset evenly and preserves the integrity of the fragrance for your next session.

Placement & Environment

Always burn your candle on a stable, flat, heat-resistant surface, well away from draughts, open windows, fans, and air conditioning units. Air movement causes uneven burning, excessive flickering, and can shorten the life of your candle considerably.

Keep your candle away from flammable materials such as curtains, books, and soft furnishings, and never place it in direct sunlight or near a heat source, as this can cause the wax to soften or discolour between burns.

When to Stop Burning

Always discontinue use of your candle when approximately 10–15mm (½ inch) of wax remains at the bottom of the jar.

Burning beyond this point can cause the glass to overheat and crack, which poses a safety risk. Once your candle has reached the end of its life, the jar can be gently cleaned out and repurposed, a lovely keepsake of your Wild Aroma Candle experience.

Safety — Always Come First

• Never leave a burning candle unattended.

• Keep out of reach of children and pets at all times.

• Never burn a candle on or near anything that can catch fire.

• Do not move a candle while it is lit or the wax is liquid.

• Always burn in a well-ventilated room, but away from direct draughts.

• Keep the wax pool free of wick trimmings, matches, and debris.• If the flame ever appears too large or begins to smoke excessively, extinguish immediately, allow to cool, trim the wick, and relight.

Storing Your Wild Aroma Candle

When not in use, store your candle in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and strong light sources, which can fade the colour and affect the fragrance over time.

Replace the lid between burns where possible to protect the scent and prevent dust from settling on the wax.

Stored correctly, an unlit candle will retain its fragrance for up to 12 months.
